How to crop a picture into a shape
- Open a picture. The heart is selected; choose another shape in the Shape section — star, hexagon, octagon, triangle, rhombus, speech bubble, arch or rounded square.
- The box takes the shape’s natural proportions. Untick Lock ratio under Size if you want to stretch it.
- Drag the shape onto the part of the picture you want, and resize it from the corners.
- Set a soft edge or an outline if you want one, and the corner radius or star points where they apply.
- Press Crop Picture. PNG keeps the outside transparent; JPG fills it with the background colour you choose.
One outline, drawn the same everywhere
Every shape is a single vector outline scaled to the crop box. The same outline draws the darkened mask on screen, cuts the picture when you save, and is used again for very large pictures that are processed in pieces — so what you see on the stage is the edge you get in the file. Rounded corners keep a true radius as the box changes shape, and the radius is shown in both percent and pixels.
A heart starts slightly wider than tall, a star square, a hexagon taller than wide, an arch in portrait — the proportions that look right for each — but the ratio lock can be released to stretch any of them. Rotation, straightening and every other cropping control still work under the shape.
What a shape crop is — and is not
A shape is a crop mask: the picture inside it is kept, the outside becomes transparent or a background colour. It is not a frame, a sticker or a border, and nothing is added on top of your picture except an optional outline you set yourself. For prints and forms that need a plain rectangle at an exact size, use crop to size.
Frequently asked questions
Which shapes are there?
Circle and ellipse, rounded rectangle, heart, star (5–12 points, adjustable inner radius), hexagon, octagon, triangle, rhombus, speech bubble and arch.
Is the outside of the shape transparent?
Yes in PNG, WebP or AVIF. JPG cannot be transparent, so its outside is filled with a background colour you pick in the result panel.
Are the edges smooth?
Yes — the outline is a vector drawn at full output resolution with anti-aliasing. Add a soft edge of up to 50 px for a feathered look.
Does the outline make the picture bigger?
No. It is drawn inside the shape, so the file is exactly the crop’s size.
Can I draw my own outline or polygon?
Freehand and polygon shapes are planned, not here yet. The shapes above can be stretched and resized freely today.
What about a round profile picture?
Circle crop is the dedicated round mode, and the profile picture cropper previews it at real sizes.
